The Woodland Farmers Market is committed to serving farmers, consumers and neighborhoods by increasing the access to fresh and locally grown produce. We are proud to be one of the farmers market in the area that provides local produce and where you get to actually meet the person growing your food. To continue to support the expansion and economic growth of our local farmers we are happy to announce a "new farmer" focused program this year. This program offers "new farmers" a unique opportunity to gain firsthand experience in selling at a Farmers Market and getting experience marketing your product with the assistance of the Woodland Farmers Market management.
The mission of The Woodland Farmers Market is to serve farmers, consumers and neighborhoods by cultivating a vibrant and socially diverse community gathering place that; promotes healthy eating, sustainable food systems, social, cultural and educational health programs, and projects that will serve our diverse population and preserve our rich agricultural and culinary heritage.
"First Time Farmer" Program is designed to provide "first time farmers" and opportunity to gain hands on Market experience in the following areas:
1. Marketing and promotion
2. Market management
3. Product management
4. Customer Service
The "new farmer" will be mentored by the Market Director who has over 17 years of experience in successfully executing community Farmers Markets. They will be given the opportunity to sell their products under their Own Farm’s name and will be included in the Woodland Farmers Markets promotion and advertising. In exchange the "new farmer" would be required to assist the Woodland Farmers Market Management in the set up and break down of the Saturday and/or Tuesday Markets.
The Farmers Market intern will work closely with the Woodland Farmer Market Manager/Executive Director, Volunteers, and other interns and be responsible for:
• Assist in setting up and breaking down of Saturday and Tuesday Market
• Assist in the operations of the Farmers Market on Market day
• Assist with the annual Tomato Festival
• First time Farmer to a Farmers Market
• Must possess their Certified Producer Certification
• Able to lift a minimum of 25lbs
• Self-motivated, hard-working, and dependable
• Ability and willingness work early Saturday mornings and Tuesday evenings for the Market season (May-September)
• Ability to organize time efficiently; prioritize multiple tasks and adjust workload as needed in a team environment
• Comfortable working with diverse audiences
Stall/vendor fees will be minimal or waived for the first season selling at the Woodland Farmers Market in exchange for set up assistance. The new farmers will set up their own booth next to the market manager’s booth so that they can be assisted during the market hours. This is the best way to gain experience in selling at a farmers market.
Anticipated hours for position: 5-10 hours a week in addition to actual market hours.
